There is a huge difference between traditional and modern marketing, the latter gives your company specific numbers such as how many users watched your video, and how many wrote a comment. While the traditional one give you no clue with no guarantees at all.
Speaking of modern marketing, Khaled Al-Zanki says that there is a Pre-Pre Launch period for each product which is so important to study and monitor user’s reactions before launching your product.
Apple for example announced Apple Watch in March, but released it in April, after one month. That was because the company wanted to listen to all the reactions to consider the right reaction, and to absorb some of the negative reviews which will go away till the official launch.
The same approach is followed by a lot of companies, which includes Nokia, the company which is trying to come back. After launching some mid-range phones, Nokia 3, 5 & 6, the company is preparing to launch a High-tier Phone, Nokia 8. So in order to measure market’s reaction they leaked by mistake a video contains their flagship in Mid May.
There is nothing wrong with doing that, so the company could have enough time to tweak some internal parts or software apps to make it great reaching expectations level.
Do you think 3 months is not enough for the company to tweak it? Apple for example, according to some rumors, just started the production of it’s new phones, which will be released later in September. That means 1 month and a half before the Launch. While Nokia leaked the video in May, and will reveal it in Mid August.
To put all that into context, Always try to measure indirectly your customer’s reactions. Don’t come revealing your self, just use the leaks concept to be away avoiding being under the spot.
